Lattice
My senior thesis for the academic year of 2021-2022. A lounge chair made of a natural wool felt honey comb lattice, with brass hardware, and a steel frame.
Play
True play is voluntary and not done for the purpose of practicality. True play cannot be forced or rushed. It cannot be overly controlled and is an excellent indicator of joy. The idea for the seating structure of this chair is a product of my time at play with paper and glue.
Refinement
A low tech chair mockup was made to gather size and ergonomic starting point. Fabric and steel was designed in Fusion 360 for ease of manufacture. Samples were acquired to explore CMF options.
Manufacture
To be able to use a wide variety of tools for a project is exceedingly satisfying. Tools used included oxyacetylene torches, MIG welders, 3D printers, laser cutters, waterjets, and sewing machines.
Final Product
A steel framed lounge chair featuring a natural wool felt honeycomb seating surface.
The produce of an endeavor bears the emotions present at its making.
